Writing Challenge: April 1, 2017
Prompt: Write about an object that’s been passed through generations in your family.
It belonged to my grandfather’s grandmother. She was a teacher back in the day of the one-room school house. She rang that bell to call students into class in the mornings and the afternoons after lunch. It’s old and fragile now. It doesn’t shine anymore, as age has dulled it’s gleam. It doesn’t have any material value, only sentimental, yet it is rarely let out of the lock-safe. In a way, it’s the symbol of our family’s devotion to education. Great-Grandma was the first teacher in the family and now, several generations later, there are four. It is just an old bell that no longer rings, yet it is the family’s most prized possession.
