Prompt: Write about a time you had to let someone or something free. Did they come back?

I never want to keep anything in a cage-

Least of all you.

I never wanted to possess you in any way-

I wanted you to choose to be with me.

I cannot live a life sheltered.

I always need to know that I can leave.

Like a bird,

I wish to fly, but I still return to the nest-

Only spread my wings knowing I can come home.

That is my wish for you:

To be able to fly- but also return at will.

I do not wish you captive-

Fly free but know you can always return to me.
