Walking Path

Writing Challenge: July 15, 2017

Prompt: Write about your favorite place in your neighborhood you like to visit.

There is a walk I like to take- steep, winding, and rustic. I walk down, hugging close to the guard rails recently put into place. One the side of this drop off, among the dusty rocks, grows sunflowers. They are cheerful and bright against the white sand and the cloudless blue sky. I follow the sharp turns down to the river bed. It’s barely more than a stream- flowing down from the cold mountain tops. It’s swift, but neither deep nor wide. The water is cold and clear. The banks are slippery and steep. It’s a peaceful place to just sit among the grass and trees that grow near the water and watch the water flow, so close to the rocky, white sands of the desert.
