Bridal Veil Falls

writing Challenge: Aug 5, 2017

Prompt: Think of a waterfall you’ve seen in real life or online.

It’s called “Bridal Veil Falls”, I don’t know the reason why, perhaps it’s because the white water looks like a veil as it tumbles over the cliff. Wide at the top and tapering down into a shallow pool rather than a swift flowing river or a deep lake. The cold water seems to nearly vaporize after leaving the short falls.

The trail to the Water fall is short. It’s so easy, in fact, that it is always crowded with entire families: grandparents, kids, parents, and even family dogs, all shouting and laughing up the path; for this reason, the hike isn’t considered peaceful. Even so, I walked the beaten trail to the top and admired the slippery rocks and fast-flowing water. At the base of the falls I spotted a bridal bouquet and wondered how it came to this place: if it was thrown by a happy bride, a hopeful girl, or a spurned lover. The flowers wilted under the water’s force, but caught by the stones it stayed in the pool under the falls: watched by the canyon viewers.
