Summer Reading

Writing Prompt: July, 20, 2018

Prompt: What book are you currently reading?

I’m reading two books at the moment:

  • #GirlBoss: A book of the kickass, female entrepreneur who founded Nasty Gal. It’s a fun book with interesting stories and snapshots of other strong women in the business world. Some of the advice is great, and some not so much (goes against my own personal experiences). Still, the book was recommended to me, and I have enjoyed it, so I recommend it to you.
  • Blackberry Wine: A book about a struggling writer finding inspiration in the form of memories of summer’s past. Told from the perspective of bottles of wine, in this book, Jay, the protagonist is crippled by writers block and his own stagnant life. He keeps flashing-back to a long, lost summer with an old, mystic, gardener named Joe who greatly impacted his life before disappearing. After opening an old bottle of Joe’s wine, Jay buys an old house in France, site unseen, because it reminds him of Joe.

My next books in line to read are:

  • The Non-Designers Design Book: a book about digital document design. Several chapters of this is a book that was assigned reading for my Visual Rhetoric class, but it is an interesting read. Some of the advice is a little outdated now, but most is still relevant, and nearly timeless.
  • The Entire Harry Potter Series. Every summer my sisters and I re-read Harry Potter. This is a tradition the stemmed from when the books and movies were still being released. Due to my job, my internship, and my Summer Semester class, I haven’t had time to read this summer, but I am sure I can buckle down and read them during my “re-hab” week before Fall Semester starts.

I’ll be honest, I haven’t been reading nearly as much as I should be. I’ve been having a hard time concentrating long enough to actually “get into the groove” of reading.
