Prompt: “In the end I didn’t miss him, I missed the memories from before”
In the end, I didn’t miss him- not in the way everyone thought I did anyway.
I didn’t miss him, but I missed feeling secure. I missed feeling carefree. I missed feeling that my life had direction. I missed feeling like love could solve anything.
Everyone thought I missed being with him. They thought I missed his love, his attention, and his affection. They thought I missed his presence and his habits. They thought I missed the way things were with him.
What they didn’t understand was that I didn’t miss him the way a lover misses her beloved. I didn’t miss him the way one person misses another. I missed him like a fantasy from a dream- an unreal fixation. I missed the way love made me feel. In the end I didn’t miss him, I missed the memories from before.
