NaNoWriMo 1 week Check-In

I have written everyday for the last week.

I am about 3000 words short of my word count goal, but I’m proud of my progress so far. My characters have met and the die hast been cast. Now I need to get the story moving.

I’m about a quarter way through the plot.

I am a plotter. My outlines have outlines, each becoming increasingly more detailed until they make it to the draft. Judging by my outline, I’m about 1/4 of the way through the story. But now I worry the story isn’t long enough. Should I continue as-if and add more later, or rework it now? Does the word count matter at this stage?

It is just a draft.

The point of NaNoWriMo is to get the story onto the page. November is the time to tell the story to yourself, not get share it with the world. The finished piece is meant to be a 1st draft, or even a 0 draft. So why am I stressing so much?

It’s only 1 week in.

I’m still setting my pace and determining my writing style. I don’t need to have everything figured out yet. This is a grand experiment in writing, and so fat I’m not disappointed.
